Yesterday I successfully completed The Flying Pig 5K!
I didn’t have the fastest time, I wasn’t one of the top finishers, I even had to walk a few times, but I am still pretty proud of myself. Let me tell you what happened.
According to the Flying Pig website, we had to check in at 5:30PM, so that’s what we did. I was under the impression that there would be dinner served (because that’s what my coach said) but there wasn’t, so I had ½ a cinnamon sugar bagel before the race.
I sat in the car for a while people-watching with my mom scoping out the competition. Then, I saw my new Cross Country friends and got out to hang with them until the race started.
Once the gun was shot and the race started the seasoned runner shot off and sprinted, whereas the newbies (me) paced themselves and started slow and steady. Mile 1 flew by and my time was 9:32. Mile 2 felt a little longer and I started getting cramps in my side so I walked for a few minutes. My time for the 2nd mile was somewhere around 11:00. The last mile was the hardest: an older woman tripped over a tree root and chipped her tooth right in front of me! My legs also started getting tired and I had to walk once again. My time for the entire race was 33:25 and I came in 111th out of 130 participants.
After the race I had a bunch of water, ate an apple, took a lot of pictures both with my friends and by my self.

After the Race:
I’ll admit, during the race there were times when I wished it was over and I could get a nice, cool drink of water and sit down. But, after the race looking back it was a great time and I would do it all over again! ♥
Thanks for watching!
