Birthday Cake Smoothie

Lately it seems like Blog World has been in a bit of a cake batter craze. :-D

Now I’d like to introduce another Cake Batter creation into the mix ↓

Oh yes, I went there. ;-)

I suppose my infatuation with cake batter started at a young age, probably the first time I tried Funfetti cake.  As I got older it evolved to Coldstone Creamery‘s Cake Batter ice cream.  And now, being the healthy food lovin’ chick that I am, I figured my love should be made a little bit healthier.

Don’t worry though.  My creation tastes just as good, if not better than the original. :-P

Birthday Cake Smoothie

A FFF Original

Ingredients:

  • 1 large banana cut into bite-sized pieces and frozen
  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • ½ cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons vanilla cake mix
  • 5-6 ice cubes
  • ~1 tablespoon sprinkles

Directions:

  1. Place all ingredients in a high-speed blender, like a Magic Bullet, and blend for 1 minute or until smooth and creamy.  Pour into a frosty glass, top with even more sprinkles, and enjoy.

Serves:  1

Now before I start talking about how much I loved this smoothie (which I did!) let me make some clarifications.

At the beginning of this post I said that I made my love healthier,”  I know this statement is bound to bring up some controversy considering cake mix has about 50 million ingredients, sprinkles are pure sugar, and Splenda is just bad.  Knowing  this, I still urge all of you to listen to me.

This creation is meant to be a healthy-ish alternative for the high-calorie, high-saturated fat, high-sugar creation that is cake, it is not meant to replace dinner.  Even though, I wouldn’t have a problem eating it every night for dinner! ;-)

Now that I’ve made that clear, let’s continue onto the part of this post where I tell you how tasty this is!

I decided to be greedy and only make one serving, thus preventing my family from getting even a sip of this creation.  Don’t judge.  When you make this smoothie you won’t want to share either.

Creamy, delicious, refreshing, and high in protein, this smoothie is just amazing.  It is also versatile!  I had mine for breakfast, but it could also act as a hearty snack or dessert.

Oh and in case you were wondering, the sprinkles are totally necessary.  They make the shake.  ← Unintentional rhyme! ;-)

Questions of the Day:

  1. Do you say sprinkles or jimmies?   Sprinkles!  I always correct people who say jimmies.
  2. Do you use boxed cake mixes sometimes?  I have to admit, I use them for 99.9% of the birthday cakes I make.

Hope you had a delicious Tuesday! :-D

  3. AHHH that looks so tastyyyy ! :D
Haha and I say sprinkles!!! And I always try to make cakes from scratch…but when there’s no time- HELLO boxed mixes!

Btw, your eyes look GORGEOUS in that picture!

  4. Wow, what a cool idea :D I also say “sprinkles” lol there IS NO SUCH THING as a Jimmy!

  5. Yum! That smoothie sounds amazing! I think I might just have to go pick up some boxed cake mix just so I can make it. :) And I always say sprinkles. I hadn’t even heard of jimmies up until a couple years ago.

  6. wow that looks so gooooood!

  8. Uhhh totally making this for dessert tonight!! So glad I jave all the ingredients! And no, I’m not sharing with my husband ;)

  9. Holy sprinkles! Lol anytime I see sprinkles it brings me back to my childhood. Amazing smoothie btw. I never thought of adding cake mix to anything.

  10. Who says jimmies!? haha I’ve honestly never heard that term in my life! This looks so good though; what a great idea!!! I’m going to try it with some chocolate cake mix…or brownie mix! OMG OMGOMG imagine how good it would be-brownie batter smoothie!! I am sooooo trying that like tomorrow:) Thanks for sparkin’ my creative juice!

  11. Jimmies is very south jersey. There are a lot of people around me who say it, but since my parents are from north jersey and pennsylvania they taught me sprinkles.

Boxed cake mix tastes good! People give it a hard time since it’s not homemade, but I find it delicious. I’m definitely trying this out! It doesn’t matter if it’s not the healthiest thing ever. We need a good balance of healthy, and not healthy. As far as I’m concerned, this shake is at least 75% healthy, which is good enough for me.

  12. I love that idea girlie! SO smart! I love how you took Cold Stone’s Creation and made it SO much healthier! Yes, cake mixes may not be the best thing out there. Nevertheless, who says you can’t have a treat once in a while. :)

And yes, Sprinkles are required! :D

  13. This looks like a blast in a glass, Funfetti is my favorite cake! Omg, I can’t take how glorious this looks!

  14. I say sprinkles!!! =D
    The smoothie looks delicious!

  15. YES! I love you!!! I am obsessed with funfetti and need to make this ASAP :)

  16. WHAT! LOVE this.. so so cute and yummy sounding! ahah jimmies??!? what the?? ive never heard of that before.. sprinkles it is!

  17. Popped in to say hi! It sounds delicious to me!

  18. You don’t have to explain yourself to me you sold me when I saw rainbow sprinkles! ( yes I call them sprinkles)

  19. Shut the front door! I am making this right now!…wait, I just had breakfast…and I have to leave for work in 15 minutes…crap! Why do you do this to me?!? Haha!

When I first saw Jessica’s cake batter chocolate bark, I went out the next day to find some cake mix and sprinkles. It took a while to search (and a little extra moolah) but I found a GF mix that had a really simple list of ingredients. I was super excited…especially since I almost dropped the store brand box when I read that it had beef fat in it! Beef fat?! Gaaaaaaross! I also only buy sprinkles that don’t have partially hydrogenated oils in them because that is just disgusting to think about!

I’ve always called them sprinkles…never heard of “jimmies”…weird.

  20. What an indulgent (yet healthy) smoothie idea. Love it!

  21. To be completely honest, I never really had a love for cake batter flavored things! But now with all these cake batter recipes, I’m pretty much craving some funfetti! This shake looks so delicious, Erika! And waaaay healthier than a piece of cake!

  22. I want to pick up a gluten-free white cake mix and make my own Funfetti cake SO bad!!! :D

  23. So I’m totally going to be making this tonight for my snack after my run!!! thank you thankt you thank you!

  24. Um that is beautiful and ingenious. i love sprinkles!!!

  25. SO TASTY! I have an obsession with cake batter :) What the heck is a jimmie? Is that another term for sprinkles?! I’ve never heard of that before!

  26. There IS a huge cake batter craze and I want in!!! That look so good. I just wrote it down on my shopping list…it’s definitely going in my Chocolate Shakeology tomorrow morning.

  27. I can totally dig that shake! I say sprinkles for sure! And I used to buy boxed cake mixes much more often than I do now.

  28. Honestly, never heard them called Jimmies… I like sprinkles better anyway. ;)
omg this looks amazing. More than amazing… cake wonderful or something way better. Ok, done with trying to be clever but seriously wow!
You really added cake mix to your smoothie? You’re awesome.

    Looks and sounds wonderful!

  29. oooh this looks amazing such a treat I cant wait to try it, and I LOVE sprinkles they make everything look prettier!
