Recipe Repost + Abs 101

by Erika

WHOA!  Is it just me or is this week flying by?!  I feel like yesterday was Monday! ;-)

Today, as the title indicates, I have a recipe and an ab workout to share.  Let’s start with the food.

I’m sure any blogger who has been blogging for more than a few months will agree with me when I say that some of my old posts are just downright embarassing.  I can’t believe how far FFF has come in only a matter of 7 months!  I love all of my old posts because I saw them gradually getting better and better, however, that being said I need to repost this recipe.  I eat it so much I figured it should have it should be redone.

Blueberry Breakfast Bowl

A FFF Original

Ingredients:

  • 1 Chobani 0% Bluberry Greek Yogurt
  • ½ cup Kashi Go Lean Original cereal
  • ½ cup fresh (or frozen) blueberries

Optional Add-Ins:

  • Coconut
  • Chopped Nuts
  • Flax/Chia Seeds
  • Banana

Directions:

  1. Scoop yogurt out of container and into a medium bowl.  Top with Kashi Go Lean Original, bluberries, and optional add-ins.  Enjoy!

Yield:  1 serving

Yeah, that’s some good stuff right there.

Easy.  Quick.  Delicious.  High-Protein.   High-Fiber.   Amazing.  :-D

Now let’s move on to the workout!

Ab workouts are my favorite kind of workouts.  You can use as much machinery and gym equipment as you want or none at all and still get similar results.  Lately I’ve been doing a lot of ab work through yoga, but I’ve also started doing Lisa’s Abs 101 workout.  It’s awesome!

Seriously, you need to try it out.  :-)

Questions of the Day:

  1. What is your favorite ab move/workout?  Feel free to leave links!  I love trying new workouts!
  2. Do you have any embarrassing old posts?

Have a great day! :-)

New York, New York!

by Erika

Today was another great day! ♥

It started with a grab-n-go breakfast of Coconut Banana Bread and yogurt.

The photo was taken in the light box, but the meal was eaten on the road.  We had a train to catch! :-D

But first we had to pick up Mikey and his family.

Once we got on the train silliness ensued.

Lots and lots of silliness.  Somehow we ended up on the train that made every stop imaginable.  :-?

Once we got off the train we made a beeline for the bathrooms Rockafeller Center.

I guess the easiest way to make money in New York City nowadays is to dress up as a popular cartoon character, let people take pictures in front of you, then ask for demand a tip. ;-)

We took pictures in front of a few just for fun, but some were just downright creepy! ↓

I guess Pooh was trying to hint at something…

Gotta love the Hannah Montana bag. ;-)

I think this was the creepiest Mickey Mouse I have ever seen.  (Make sure you look closely at the tongue.)

*Shudder*

Afterwards we walked around the city and took in all the sights.

All of that walking sure made us hungry, so we stopped at a little place called the Cranberry Cafe for lunch.

I had Salad #18.

I was stuffed after eating it.  The salad almost weighed a pound! :-P

After lunch we did some more walking and a little bit of window shopping.  We even went to Saks 5th Avenue where I posed with a mannequin. ↓

We also went to the cheesy souvenir shops and the big Toys-R-Us.

Then it was time to leave! :-(

On the way to the train we stopped at Starbucks for some coffee and had some snacks.  I had a tall iced coffee with a shot of sugar-free vanilla syrup and a Kashi GoLean Roll Bar – Oatmeal Walnut flavor.

On the train there was more silliness, but this time it was a combination of tiredness and silliness.  By the time we got home we were too tired to cook so we ate dinner at Mikey’s house.

Dinner was my aunt’s homemade bean soup.  So good! :-)

Now I’m sitting on the couch with a full belly watching Are We Done Yet.  I think I’m going to fall asleep any minute…

Goodnight! :-D

Too Pooped To Post

by Erika

Hey Bloggies! How was your weekend? My weekend was packed with family activities; between Saturday’s Lambertville/New Hope Excursion and Sunday’s Crabbing Trip (more about that later) I was too pooped to post yesterday. ;-) Let me fill you in on the crabbing fun…

The Cousins

As you can see we went with my cousins and uncle. We all drove down together and it felt so long! An hour-long car ride with 3 loud boys do not make for a happy Erika. ;-)

But, once we got out of the car and started crabbing everything was fine. :-)

Me reading an In Touch magazine

Don’t get me wrong, I was crabbing earlier in the day but we weren’t catching anything and the boys started getting on my nerves (did I just write that?!) so I went in the car to get away from them read. (I read the entire In Touch Magazine and 40 pages of The Lightning Thief.)

We finally left our crabbing spot after 6 hours with only 3 keepers. The adults decided it wasn’t worth keeping 3 crabs and decided to give them to the people next to us. Philip was not happy at all. :-?  Oh, I almost forgot…this is a food blog! ;-) Here are yesterday’s eats. ↓

Breakfast:  A yogurt mess with Kashi Go Lean, a Dannon Light & Fit strawberry yogurt cup, ground flax seeds, and freeze-dried strawberries

Breakfast

Lunch:   We got lunch from Wawa. I got Chef Salad with Honey Dijon and a side of baked chips. :-)

Lunch

CHIPS!

Snack:   For a snack I had a light mozzarella string cheese and a TJ‘s Fiber-Full Fruit Strip. (BTW- Don’t get the Apple-Blueberry flavor, the Apricot flavor is better.)

Snack

Dinner:   I didn’t take any pictures of dinner since we ate at 9PM and I was starving so I will just tell you about it. We got take-out pizza for dinner – ½ mushroom ½ onion. I had a slice of each and ½ a Granny Smith apple. Mmmm…It really hit the spot after not eating for 5 hours. :-?

That’s all I have! Now it’s your turn: tell me what exciting (or not so exciting) things you did this weekend. :-)

Before I Forget

by Erika

Hello Bloggies! How was your weekend? I had a pretty mellow weekend, no parties, no gatherings, just good ol’ relaxing and hanging at home. :-)

Today’s breakfast was a Blueberry Breakfast Bowl. I think this is becoming a Monday thing for me…

I sprinkled it with a new find: Stober Farms Golden Flax Seed!

Thank You Google Images!

After seeing flax, whether it be ground or whole flax seeds, on a couple of blogs, I decided to take the plunge and buy some. I was pretty impressed by its nutritionals: 70 calories for 2 tablespoons, loaded with Omega 3s, 4 grams of fiber, and 3 grams of protein. Plus, flax is also a thickening agent in smoothies and Green Monsters and can also be subbed for eggs, butter, and oil in many recipes!

In case you didn’t know about the flax substitutes, here you go:

1 egg = 1 tablespoon flax + 3 tablespoons water

1 tablespoon margarine, butter or oil = 3 tablespoons flax

…And before I forget: I found some giveaways for y’all! (Yeah, I have no idea why I just said y’all) :-)

Now I am going to get some uniforms altered! Yay! :-P

Questions of the Day:

  1. Which would you prefer: an activity-filled weekend with lots to do or a relaxing weekend at home?         I love hanging out with friends and family, but I need time to unwind! Perhaps a mix of the two: a fun-filled Saturday and a relaxing Sunday? (I know I am cheating.) :-P
  2. What foodie finds did you get recently?        I got the ground flax seed!

Hello Everyone!  How are ya doin’? :-D

This morning I made myself a Blueberry Breakfast Bowl and totally devoured it in 3o seconds. These are soooo good! If you haven’t made one yet, I highly recommend you do. :-D

I was in such a hurry eating my breakfast today because my dad was rushing me my dad and I were going to visit my Grannie (dad’s mom) and he wanted to be back by 12pm to watch his shows. Lol! :-) We brought Grannie a “care package” filled with veggies from my dad’s garden and zucchini bread and then we stayed and chatted for a bit. (We turned on the news and saw that Barack Obama actually went to a hoagie shop 1 hour from where we live yesterday – how cool! 8-D)

When I got home, I found that my mom and brother went fishing. :-( So I decided to clean up the kitchen a little and then make some lunch. (You should have heard my stomach grumbling!) I took advantage of the (almost) empty house and broke out the food processor to grind some FiberOne for Hungry Girl‘s Faux-Fried Mozzarella Sticks!

Faux-Fried Mozzarella Sticks

(Recipe courtesy of Hungry-Girl.com)

(source)

Ingredients:

  • 2 light mozzarella sticks (I used Sargento Part-Skim)
  • 1/4 cup Fiber One bran cereal (original)
  • 2 tbsp. EggBeaters
  • salt, pepper & Italian seasonings; to taste (Garlic powder is a nice addition.)
  • Optional: marinara sauce (for dipping)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a food processor or blender, grind Fiber One to a breadcrumb-like consistency. Place crumbs in a small plastic container with a lid. Season crumbs with as much salt, pepper and Italian seasonings as you like. Set aside. Cut cheese sticks in half, so that you have 4 sticks. Place sticks in a small bowl, and pour egg substitute over the top of the sticks. Swirl egg substitute around so that it thoroughly coats the sticks. One by one, transfer sticks to the container with the crumbs. Cover container, and give it a shake to coat the sticks in the crumbs. Carefully return sticks to the dish with egg substitute, and coat them again. Next put sticks back in the crumbs container, cover, and shake once more to coat (try doing this two at a time the second time around). Place sticks on a baking dish sprayed lightly with nonstick spray. Spritz the tops of the sticks with a quick mist of the spray. Place dish in the oven, and bake for 10 minutes (or until the first sign of cheese oozing out). If desired, serve with warm marinara sauce. Best when eaten immediately, while cheese is hot and gooey! :-)

Lunch

I enjoyed my mozzarella sticks with a side of marinara and cucumber salad (cut-up cucumbers from the garden, sliced Vidalia onion, salt) Delish! :-P

After lunch I worked on my math packet for an hour and then my mom came home and we took Fluffy to PetSmart to get groomed. Then, I came home and made Apricot Pineapple Jam! :-D (Recipe in a later post!)

Me & My Calculator

Mmmmm...

I had some apricots while making jam!

After my “jam session” (bad pun, I know) my cousins came over for dinner. They had grilled chicken, pasta, and corn, but I opted for a wrap.

Dinner

  • 3 oz. extra firm tofu
  • 2 tbsp. Tribe  Hummus
  • baby spinach

I finished my wrap with an easy tomato dressing recipe that I got from Better Homes and Gardens.

Fresh Tomato Dressing

Ingredients:

  • 1 small tomato, cut into quarters
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • salt, pepper, & garlic powder (to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon snipped fresh chives (I used dried chives.)
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano leaves (I used dried oregano.)

Directions:

In a blender (or food processor), puree tomato, olive oil, vinegar, and seasonings. Stir in chives and oregano after blending.

Makes: approx. ¾ cup dressing

After dinner I went to the dogs (Yup, I am dogsitting again!) then came home and did nothing.

Well, I did have a snack a couple of hours after dinner…

A vanilla yogurt and some cantaloupe. (Cantaloupe not pictured.)

Now my mom and I are going for a walk! See ya! :-D

BTW- After reading this post I realized that I didn’t have any meat today – Wow!
