An Afternoon Cross Country Meet

by Erika

Finally, a Cross Country Meet where I don’t have to run at 9AM! :-D

Last night and this morning I had my usual banana soft-serve and toast with nut butter.

Toast w/ Peanut Butter and Cinnamon

Did you notice a difference in the appearance of my soft-serve compared to a few other times I’ve had it? (Here, here, and here.)

Okay, obviously my soft-serve was in a different flavor, but this time I made it in my Magic Bullet instead of my mini food processor. It made a huge difference – usually it takes me 10 minutes to blend my soft-serve and it comes out all melty. This time it took me about 5 minutes and it was the consistency of actual soft-serve! Yay! :-)

After a few hours of doing homework and hanging out I got dressed in my Cross Country uniform and had a Luna bar for pre-run fuel.

Toasted Nuts N' Cranberry

I also had a Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookie because they are good. ;-)

_________

Once we arrived at the meet (after an hour drive) I warmed up with my team and put on my race number! I actually got a number! (Usually we just have little strips that we rip-off when we finish.)

So exciting! :-D

BTW – My race time was 3PM.

Overall, the course was pretty easy. The first half mile of the race was the hardest because I was going up a huge hill, but once I got over that it was downhill all the way! I actually got my fastest 2.2 mile race time today: 16:41! Yay! :-)

I attribute my fast time to my new sneakers and to the later race time. (I am not a morning runner!)

_________

Back to the food…

Since it was already 5PM when we got home we quickly showered, got changed, and went out for dinner.

Before we left I had a coconut water.

At the restaurant I ordered a Buffalo Chicken Wrap and requested a whole wheat tortilla.

I also ordered a side salad.

Garden Salad w/ Italian Dressing

Spicy - Just The Way I Like It!

Now that my belly is full I am going to run some errands with my Mom. We have to go pick out a present for my Babi (Grandma.) It’s her birthday tomorrow! :-)

What did you do this Saturday? :-D

Goodnight!

Another Buffet

by Erika

Yesterday we went to yet another buffet! This time we met up with our cousins and went to a place called The Giant Crab.

The Giant Crab

You’d think I would have used my own tips about buffets, but I didn’t. I guess I was caught up in the fact that I was never there before because after the buffet I was stuffed. :-(

You don’t even want to know how many plates I got…

Plate #1

↑ The crab cakes  were really good!

Plate #2

Plate #3

↑ I found this when I was ready to get dessert…they actually had a hibachi table where you pick your meat, veggies, and sauce and the guy behind the table stir-fries it up for you. (While I was battling with my ready-to-explode stomach I told my Mom that I should have stuck to the stir fry and not all that heavily breaded seafood.) ;-)

Bowl #1

↑ ¼ bowl of Gumbo

 Bowls #2-3

↑ Chocolate and Vanilla Soft-Serve with rice pudding (Is it just me or does buffet soft-serve have a really weird texture?)

________

After eating all that food I was stuffed! All I wanted to do was come home and lay on the couch and be lazy, but I couldn’t because after dinner we hung around for a bit taking pictures.

The Family!

I had a great time with my friends and family, but I clearly have to work on portion control. :-)

Question of the Day:

  1. Do you over-do it at buffets?           I do sometimes, but not all the time.
  2. Do you have any tips for surviving buffets?        I like to scope out the buffet first to see what I am going to take and what I am going to pass on.

Salsa Bar

by Erika

Today was another productive day of good eats!

After breakfast, I read 30 pages of The Lightning Thief and then went to get my eyebrows threaded with my mom. When we got back home, I cleaned my room (didn’t get very far) and then had a random lunch.

Lunch:

  • 2 turkey meatballs
  • carrots and sugar snap peas
  • 1 wedge Laughing Cow
  • dijon mustard
  • 1 peach (Not Pictured)

Once lunch was finished I cleaned my room some more, did chores, etc. (Boring stuff…) Then I had some snacks before we went to Lambertville and New Hope to walk around and have dinner.

Snacks:

  • 1 Kashi TLC Peanut Peanut Butter Bar

  • 1 Muffin That Tastes Like A Donut (the second-to-last one!)

Our Lambertville/New Hope excursion was so much fun! When we first arrived in Lambertville we walked by the Delaware River for a while and watched people canoeing and fishing on the river.

Then, we walked over the bridge to the New Hope, PA side of the river. I took a bunch of professional-looking pictures! Haha! :-)

The view from the bridge

Once we got to New Hope my mom and I window shopped and my dad and Phil looked at statues.

Dad, Phil, & A DINOSAUR!

It’s a good thing I had a bunch of filling snacks before I left because we didn’t get to eat dinner until 8PM! :-? We stopped at a Mexican restaurant called El Taco Loco. They had a SALSA BAR! The salsa was so good – they had spicy, mild, and salsa verde and I must have gotten 3 bowls full that I ate only with a spoon and some tortilla chips. Yum! All that salsa was before dinner – my actual entrée was chicken tacos with mexican rice (Yuck – too heavy on the cumin - I didn’t eat much of it) and pinto beans.

It’s too bad I didn’t snap any pictures of the salsa. I ate it all too fast! ;-)

Question of the Day:

  1. What is your favorite type of cuisine?          I ♥ Mexican food!

Phil’s Birthday Dinner

by Erika

Yesterday, we took Phil out for dinner in honor of his 10th birthday! :-) He decided he wanted to go to Red Lobster because he wanted to get lobster. (Are you kidding? Lobster for a 10-year-old?!)

Okay now before you go thinking that he is a major spoiled brat I’ll tell you what actually happened…Phil ordered off of the Children’s Menu (broiled flounder) and my mom ordered the (expensive) dish that Phil wanted. For those of you wondering, the dish Phil wanted was the $25 Ultimate Feast. :-?

For my dinner I ordered the Broiled Seafood Platter with a side salad and broccoli.

The Broiled Seafood Platter was awesome! It came with shrimp scampi, broiled bay scallops, and crab stuffed flounder. The crab stuffed flounder was by far my favorite – it was oh so flavorful and delicious. ↓ :-P

The following are some very yellow pictures of Phil and my mom’s his dinner. (Note: These are before I turned the flash on.) :-)

Where's the butter?!

At the end of the meal our waiter surprised us and brought Phil out a bowl of ice cream! (I wanted a bowl of ice cream…) ;-)

It was a fun and memorable night. :-)

Bread Bandits

by Erika

Do you like Green Monsters?

I love Green Monsters! When my brother woke up, he tried it and agreed that it was delicious. (That’s a lot coming from a 9-year-old!) :-D

After breakfast I went to the dogs and started reading The Lightning Thief  by Rick Riordan (one of my required summer reading books). The book actually isn’t that bad, it’s just not the type of book I would normally pick out myself. I like reading “chick” books! :-P Haha!

After reading I had some lunch: another Everything Except the Kitchen Sink Salad!

  • romaine lettuce
  • spinach
  • grilled tofu
  • fresh mozzarella
  • tomato
  • onion
  • corn
  • carrots
  • blueberries
  • olives
  • Fresh Tomato Dressing

Lunch

Mmmm. Mmmm. Mmmm. I love big, colorful, salads! ♥

Later I had a snack.

Then my mom and I went to go get some gifts for my brother’s birthday. (Phil will be turning 10 on August 9th!) :-)

We also stopped at Wegmans and got some bananas, cottage cheese, butter, etc. Once we came home we unloaded the purchases and then got ready to go out to dinner. We decided to go to a diner around here called Mastoris, they make the best cheese and cinnamon bread! ♥

I made sure to raid the bread basket…here’s my slice of cheese bread. ↓ :-D

The bread was followed by some gazpacho and an arugula salad with ranch dressing.

For my entrée I ordered Virginia Ham with Pineapple Sauce and a side of broccoli.

Gourmet: No Delicious: Yes

Mmmmm. I was pleasantly full but not stuffed…Yay! (It’s probably because I decided not to eat all the ham and take half of it home for tomorrow’s lunch.)

As we were leaving our inner bandits came out…

…Bread Bandits, that is. ;-) We asked our waiter for another basket of bread, ate a few slices, and proceeded to ask the same waiter for a bag to take the bread home in. Haha!

It’s addicting.

Mmmm...Cinnamon

Now I am off to cut myself (another) slice of cinnamon bread, take a shower, and then crash…I am beyond tired! :-P

Goodnight!

PS – Comments close for my Green Tea/PureVia Giveaway at midnight! I will be choosing a winner using a random number generator tomorrow! :-)
